Weekly Reflection

The Ascension of the Lord

Jesus showed himself to the Eleven, and said to them, ‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation' … And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven: there at the right hand of God he took his place, while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it. (Mk 16:19–20)

We pray to be your faithful witnesses, to the ends of the earth.

Lord, have mercy.

That the Spirit of God renews our lives.

Lord, have mercy.

That those who are paralysed by fear or doubt might be healed.

Lord, have mercy.

God of our Lord, Jesus Christ, as we celebrate the ascension of your Son, teach us to trust that he lives to intercede on our behalf, now and forever,

Amen

Laudato Si Week 2021

On 24 May, 2015 the Holy Father Pope Francis wrote an encyclical letter titled Laudato Si - Care for our common home. This letter is an inspiring call to action - it asks us to play our part in caring for the environment.

This week (16-25 May), Pope Francis once again asks the world's 1.3 billion Catholics to focus on the message of Laudato Si and consider how we can care for our environment. Among the concerns discussed are:

  • Pollution
  • Climate change
  • Global inequality
  • A weak response to the cry of our environment.

Explanations of the encyclical are set out in a series of short and interesting YouTube clips. Click here to watch.

In practical terms, our environment is the grounds of our College. I thank the Environmental Captains for their work in arranging a roster of homeroom classes each Tuesday and Friday to spend time caring for our environment.

Sadly, this regular clean up should not need to happen but it appears that some students do not see the importance of placing their rubbish in the many bins that are provided around the College. We have outstanding facilities at Catholic Regional College Melton that students are so fortunate to have available to them. It saddens me when I walk around and see the high levels of litter left in our grounds.

This week as we focus on Laudato Si, I encourage parents and guardians to talk to their children about the importance of keeping our rivers and waterways free from pollution. Placing rubbish in the bin is a small step towards protecting the beautiful environment over which we have stewardship.

Bulmans Road Upgrade

Over the past 12 months, City of Melton engineers have worked with the College on detailed plans for the upgrade to Bulmans Road. The Council has displayed the plans and is seeking community input.

I encourage all parents and guardians to view the plans and provide feedback, particularly about the drop off and pick up areas. This is a great opportunity to have a say so that the best possible solutions for the safety of our students are incorporated into the designs.

You can visit the Council’s engagement platform by clicking here. All feedback should be submitted by 31 May 2021.

Below are some drawings from the Council that provide a snapshot of the proposal. We have also set up a page on our College website that will include links to any information released by the City of Melton relating to the Bulmans Road upgrade. Click here to take a look.
