As we prepare to gather on Thursday this week for our Year 12 Graduation Mass, we are filled with deep gratitude for the journey our students have undertaken.
In true Franciscan spirit, we take this time to reflect on the blessings, challenges, and growth that have shaped each of our Year 12s into the young adults they are today.
St Francis often spoke of humility, gratitude, and love for all of God's creation. These values are the foundation of this important milestone for our students.
Their hard work, perseverance, and dedication have brought them to this point, and our graduation Mass is an opportunity to celebrate not only their academic achievements but also their spiritual and personal growth.
It is a moment to give thanks for the friendships forged, the lessons learned, and the community built during their time at the College.
As they enter a new chapter of life, we are reminded of St Francis' words, "Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible".
This wisdom will guide them as they embrace new challenges, knowing that with faith and trust in God, they are capable of great things.
We are looking forward to celebrating this milestone with a Mass as we lift up our Year 12 students in prayer, asking for God's blessings on their future endeavours.
As they prepare to leave the familiar and enter the unknown, may they always carry the spirit of St Francis with them, seeking peace, serving others, and finding joy in the simple, everyday moments of life.
Let us continue to keep our graduates in our thoughts and prayers as they approach this significant transition, trusting that God's plan for each of them is full of hope, possibility, and love.
Director of Faith and Mission
Welcome back to Term 4.
This year seems to have flown by, with our Year 12 students celebrating their final days at the College this week. We wish them all the best for their exams and upcoming entry into the workforce.
Last Thursday, I attended our annual Music and Awards Evening. It was wonderful to see the extraordinary talents of our students. It is a credit to their teachers who have worked hard all year to encourage and support our young people. Click here to read more about the event and the students recognised for their achievements in 2024.
Next Thursday, we will celebrate the artistic talents of our students at the 2024 College Art Exhibition. Once again, the expertise and passion of our teaching staff have resulted in outstanding work from our students. We are fortunate to be part of such a rich and diverse community whose talents are flourishing.
Enrolment applications for Year 7 2026 were due on Friday 16 August. First-round offers will be sent to families this week.
Any current families who have not lodged an application for children currently in Grade 5 are requested to do so urgently to avoid missing out on a position at the College in 2026.
The number of applications has been overwhelming, so please submit your application as soon as possible to ensure you secure a place.

This Wednesday 16 October is the last day of classes for Year 12 VCE, VCE VM and VPC students.
Next week, our VCE Unit 3/4 students will prepare and revise for their VCAA written exams, which begin on Tuesday 29 October with English. The examination period runs until Wednesday 20 November.
We wish all students the best as they prepare for these exams. Teachers, our VCE Coordinator Carissa Lock and House Leaders are available to provide extra help and support during this time.
Some Year 12 students have chosen a non-ATAR pathway and have completed their VCE commitments. They are not required on-site, provided all assessments and outcomes are complete.
Mentor Group time held each morning is an important beginning to the day. It provides time for a check-in with students to ensure they are ready for the day and aware of any upcoming commitments or changes to their timetables.
Often, House competitions and quizzes are organised, and it is a chance to get to know students from other year levels.
It is essential that students arrive on time and ready to begin their day. When they arrive late, they miss the opportunity to maximise engagement in their learning. Punctuality is essential in all our lives, and I encourage parents and guardians to ensure their child arrives on time.
Over the next few weeks, our Year 10 and 11 students will finish final assessments and begin their exam preparation.
Year 7 and 8 students will also be preparing for their Timed Assessment Tasks (TATs), and Year 9 students for their end-of-year exams in English and Mathematics.
Information will be emailed to parents and guardians outlining all requirements during this time.
Learning the skill of reading exam-style questions and knowing how to answer these is essential for success. Time management is also an important part of this process.
Teachers will use time over the next few weeks to foster these skills and provide guidance on what will be included in these formal assessments.
All teachers can provide ideas on how to study or improve knowledge retention. Students should feel confident in asking for study advice.
The Jumpstart Program will begin on Monday 18 November for all Year 8-12, 2025 students as they begin next year’s curriculum.
All students finish on Friday 29 November at 1.15pm.

Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation headspace encouraged young people to pause, reflect and reconnect with what works for them during headspace day last week.
Headspace provides early intervention mental health services to 12-25-year-olds.
Being a young person is an exciting time of trying out new things, building skills for life and thinking about the future. Sometimes, this can also feel overwhelming and stressful.
This year’s headspace day theme Pause. Reflect. Reconnect encourages young people to take time amidst life’s challenges to find balance and joy. Whether it’s spending time with family, pursuing a hobby, or simply taking a break, finding time for self-care is essential.
You can visit the headspace website for great tips and explore activities to support your child’s wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.
Our annual College Music and Awards Evening was held last Thursday to celebrate students in classroom and extra-curricular music across Melton and Cobblebank campuses.
The evening showcases and recognises our students' talents and acknowledges their hard work and dedication.
Students rose to the occasion, performing pieces ranging from classic rock n' roll to gospel hymns, ensuring there was something in the program for everyone.
This night allows our two campuses to come together as one school to witness and celebrate each others' successes.
It was the College Concert Band's debut music night performance, and it was evident that parents and friends were all very proud to watch their loved ones on stage for the first time.
At the end of the night, students were invited back on stage for the presentation of our music awards. These awards recognise the hard work, talent and dedication exhibited by students who go the extra mile.
Congratulations to all our performers and award winners this year. We can't wait to see the depth of talent grow for next year's concert.
Below is what some of our students had to say about the evening.
Music Night is an excellent opportunity for many students to show their talents. At first, I felt nervous about performing, but as soon as I started to play my instrument, all my nerves disappeared, and I realised how much I enjoyed music. There were so many talented people; I was blown away by all the performances. It seems like every year, Music Night gets better, and I can’t wait for what next year will hold. Isabella, Year 9
For this year's music night, I was one of the MCs and a performer. It was a really enjoyable night. It was definitely nerve-wracking at the beginning, especially with two roles, but also exciting, and the performances were invigorating. Looking forward to doing it again next year. Jordan, Year 11

On the last two days of Term 3, our Year 9 students embarked on their Melbourne Experience as part of the Rite Journey program.
Over two days, they explored what makes Melbourne unique, navigating its iconic landmarks, diverse cultures and bustling streets.
Students caught the train to the city and back on their own or with friends over the two days.
They participated in the MCG tour, visited Eureka Skydeck, Queen Victoria Market, and Melbourne Zoo, and enjoyed ice skating at O’Brien Icehouse in Docklands.
From mastering public transport to engaging with local businesses and experiencing cultural activities, students developed important life skills. This hands-on experience fosters critical and creative thinking, preparing our students to thrive in their future endeavours.
I thank the staff who accompanied our students and made the Melbourne Experience possible. It was a truly wonderful experience for all.

The College recently received recognition from the Opening the Doors Foundation after students and staff raised more than $600 at our annual NAIDOC Week Together We Walk walkathon.
The foundation directly supports First Nations students and their families, ensuring they can access quality education and are retained and supported in education.
The foundation has used the $620 raised at our walkathon to buy new school shoes for Indigenous students – essential items that encourage children to participate in school activities with pride.
We received a certificate of appreciation (pictured below) for our ongoing support of the foundation.

Congratulations to our Melton Campus Girls cricket team who claimed the overall Champions title at the SACCSS Girls Cricket Blast Day last Friday.
This is the second big victory for our girls, who also won the top spot at the Girls Cricket Gala earlier this year, resulting in their selection to represent SACCSS at the Victorian Indoor Cricket Championships.
The team showed remarkable sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill, approaching each match with enthusiasm and determination.
Whether batting, bowling or fielding, the girls gave their all, with the captain, Year 10 student Shameka, leading the team and earning Best on Ground on the day.
Below is her wrap-up of the grand final match against Emmanuel College.
“We batted first and made a brilliant start to the game with our Year 9s Bianca, Tanae, Veronica and Hannah hitting plenty of boundaries. At the end of the innings, our girls had 157 runs on the board.
“We then followed up with some bowling, taking a couple of wickets, and some excellent fielding. Our girls put up a fight and cut Emmanuel’s runs to a total of 104.
“All our team members impacted the game, whether through fielding, bowling, or batting, and everyone contributed.”
Well done to all the players for their dedication to the cricket team and one-day event. Special thanks to coach and teacher Stephanie Bertalmio for her time, effort, and commitment to the team all year.
Congratulations to our Cobblebank Campus team who participated in the SACCSS Blast Girls Cricket Gala Day for the first time, heading home with two wins from four games and a growing interest in cricket!
The team were incredibly enthusiastic and supportive of each other when batting, bowling, or fielding and showed impressive growth throughout the day.
They had a fun day representing the College, and we look forward to seeing them shine in next year’s competition.

Our Year 8 Premier League Division 1 teams played Round 2 matches last Wednesday against St Monica's College.
It was a tough week, with hard-fought losses across the board. However, the resilience and determination displayed by our players were admirable. The experience gained from these challenging matches will help them drive for improvement in the upcoming rounds.
Good luck to all teams as they push forward in the competition.
We are excited to announce that the Melton Basketball Association will run a lunchtime basketball program for Year 7 and 8 students during Big Break in the coming weeks.
Coach Angus ran a special lunchtime basketball session for our students last Friday, allowing them to sharpen their skills and learn new techniques.
The students had a fantastic time, and the session was a great way to foster teamwork skills, especially for our Year 8 boys and girls participating in Premier League this term.

On 6 September, our teacher, Mrs Natalie Bourke, chopped her hair off to raise awareness for the Cancer Council.
Cancer Council Australia is a national nonprofit organisation that aims to promote cancer-control policies and to reduce the illness caused by cancer in Australia. It is also the only charity that works across every area of cancer, from research to prevention and support.
Before the haircut, we helped Mrs Bourke plait her hair and set up near the canteen.
Students could donate a gold coin at the BBQ held the day before for the chance to cut off a plait. Mrs Bourke drew names from a box, and many students gathered around to see her haircut. She raised $100 for the Cancer Council and looks amazing with her new hairdo!
Year 12 student
On 5 September, a group of Year 12 VCE VM students set up and ran a barbecue outside Sheehan Stadium with the help of teachers and maintenance staff.
We achieved our goal of raising $500 to buy various items for local people facing homelessness, including sanitary items, non-perishable food, and blankets, among other things.
Homelessness, specifically youth homelessness, was a big topic for students in Term 3. Thanks to everybody contributing and purchasing sausages and drinks, we have positively impacted the lives of those in our community.
Year 12 students
Late last term, Year 12 VCE-VM students visited the police station in Baccus Marsh.
We learned about the different driver's licences the police have, the cars they use and how they read shift times and adjust to the demands in their workplace.
We saw their buildings, learned how to find and take fingerprints, and heard about the different careers and pathways into the police force and the academy.
Students asked a range of questions and engaged with the police officers. We enjoyed our time at the station and after the excursion, some students said they would consider joining the police force.
The day was a great success.
Year 12 student
Melton Council is collaborating with the University of Melbourne to organise a tour of the city campus for students in years 11 and 12 on Wednesday 25 September.
There is no cost for the excursion, and lunch will be provided. The aim is to encourage more tertiary engagement among young people in Melton.
