This Friday 1 November is All Saints’ Day.
On this day, we are invited to remember and honour the saints who have faithfully lived out the Gospel. In the spirit of our Franciscan tradition, we look to our patrons St Francis of Assisi and St Clare of Assisi, who showed us how to live with simplicity, humility, and a profound love for creation and humanity.
Here at our College, we are also blessed to have saints represent many of our Houses: St Dominic of Osma, St Lawrence of Brindisi, St Catherine of Siena, St Bernard of Clairvaux, St Josephine of Bakhita, St Anthony of Padua and St Mary MacKillop.
This special day encourages us to reflect on their inspiring lives and deep commitment to God’s love.
The saints inspire us to strive for holiness in our own lives. They were ordinary people who, through their love, compassion, and dedication to God, became extraordinary examples of faith.
They remind us that sainthood is not reserved for a select few but is a call to each one of us.
St Francis' famous words and our Faith and Mission theme for this year, "Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible", challenge us to take small steps toward making a difference, even when the task seems overwhelming.
All Saints' Day is also a celebration of the Communion of Saints—the spiritual connection between the faithful on earth, those in heaven, and those who have gone before us.
It is a time to remember those in our own lives who have shown us the face of God through their kindness, their sacrifices, and their quiet acts of love.
Let us take a moment to reflect on the saints in our lives - those who have been instruments of God’s grace in big and small ways.
Together we pray:
Loving God,
Through the intercession of all your saints,
May we grow in holiness and follow their example,
Walking in the footsteps of St. Francis and St. Clare.
Help us to live with open hearts,
To see Christ in all those we meet,
And to respond with compassion and love.
May we strive to build a world where peace, joy, and love abound.
Amen
Director of Faith and Mission
This week, I would like to update you on the infrastructure projects underway at our Melton and Cobblebank campuses as there has been much activity and planning at both sites.
Construction of the Creativity Hub (Stage 2) at Cobblebank Campus is well underway and expected to be completed by the end of Semester 1, 2025.
This will provide our students with exceptional Food Technology and Materials Technology (wood and metal) facilities, including a hospitality kitchen and dining area.
The hub will also include Art, Visual Communication Design, robotics, STEM and general project-based learning spaces. Click here to take a virtual tour.
In Semester 1 next year, our Year 9 students will undertake these subjects in alternative rooms. When the new hub is completed, these temporary rooms will be used as intended in the original master plan, providing more science rooms and dance spaces to cater for the increasing numbers of students.
Construction of Stage 3, our Year 10-12 general-purpose learning building, will begin at the start of 2025 and is expected to be completed in early 2026.
As part of our master plan for sports facilities at Cobblebank Campus, work will begin in December on installing a synthetic grass oval with a cricket pitch, player benches and equipment shed.
As these facilities develop, the College will be able to offer a second sports academy based at Cobblebank.
Thanks to funding from our Parents and Friends Association, shade sails will be installed in the first week of December.
We had hoped to have this installed in the September school holidays but did not receive the council planning permit we required before Term 4 began.
Our most recent advice from Melton Council about the opening of Bridge Road is that it is waiting for Powercor to commission the traffic lights.
Considering this road was scheduled to be open before our campus was built, this is proving very frustrating and expensive. The College currently pays more than $100 per day to provide a bus from Cobblebank Stadium to the campus to ensure students arrive and depart the campus safely.
Perhaps our newly elected Council can move this project forward.
This Friday, we will welcome Bishop Martin Ashe, Member for Melton Steve McGhie MP, and other special guests to the official opening and blessing of our new campus.
Year 8 students, our foundation cohort, will join us for this special event.
I am proud that our new and developing campus has offered students almost all the same educational experiences as those provided to Melton Campus students.
They participate in the College Production, Music and Dance evenings and the Art Exhibition in the Performing Arts Centre over at our Melton Campus, enjoy swimming and athletics carnivals and SACCSS Premier League sport along with some PE classes at Cobblebank Stadium, take part in Food Technology classes, have dedicated science and art rooms, and House Masses at St Anthony’s Church.
This has been made possible thanks to the hard work and planning of our staff, who strive to live out our philosophy of “one school, two campuses” for the benefit of all students.
The fit-out of our new Junior Hub at Melton Campus continues with completion on schedule for the end of the year.
It’s exciting to see the new rooms and outdoor areas changing from construction zones to near functional spaces.
B Block, one of the last remaining original buildings on campus, was demolished late last year to make way for our two-story learning hub that provides science and food technology rooms with outdoor alfresco dining, multi-purpose classrooms and a maker space for students to participate in creative STEM subjects.
It will also become the new home for students in Lawrence House.
We were pleased to be able to retain one wall of the former building that featured the College’s original motto.
On the perimeter of this new build will be more volleyball and down ball courts, a table tennis area as well as landscaping and Catholic iconography.

Congratulations to the Year 10D Melton Campus Hospitality class for their excellent efforts in catering for the 2024 Art Exhibition.
The students planned and prepared a range of sweet and savoury finger foods that were presented professionally and served on the night. The class demonstrated incredible teamwork while showcasing their ability to provide a high standard of hospitality to guests.
I am extremely proud of them and thank them for their commitment to the event. Margaret Rowe-Watts, Hospitality Teacher
Our Year 10E Melton Campus Hospitality students recently completed their first major catering task – an afternoon tea for our staff.
The students planned a menu for 150 people that required them to consider allergies and intolerances. Their preparations began in Term 3 with trials and label preparation.
At a staff meeting on 17 October, the students delivered beautifully presented and delicious sweet and savoury creations, including lemon slice and coconut chocolate truffles (regular and gluten-free), sausage rolls (regular and vegan), brownies, scones and melting moments.
The students were excited and thrilled with the feedback they received. Needless to say, our staff were pretty happy too!

VCE VM students collected their first harvest last week, which included broccoli, cauliflower, peas, beans, lettuce and kale.
Students are also providing Food Technology classes with abundant herbs including parsley, rosemary, basil, mint and thyme.
To remind us of the wise words of our patron, St Francis and our College theme for 2024, Year 11 student Sophie created this sign, appropriately placed at the entrance to the newly upgraded garden and storage shed.

Last Friday, teams from both Melton and Cobblebank campuses travelled to Hume Tennis Centre to compete in the SACCSS Junior Tennis Tournament.
All students who played won at least one of their matches and we congratulate our singles players who were always at their games on time and kept themselves motivated and competitive throughout the day, which is not an easy feat!
Thank you, everyone, for giving it your all, making the most of the day by having fun and sharpening those tennis skills.

Round 4 of the Year 8 Premier League season was a mixed bag for our Division 1 teams.
Despite this, students displayed great sportsmanship and resilience in the face of disappointment. Congratulations to team who were successful last week - we wish you well in the games ahead.
A reminder that Melton Basketball Association continues to offer a free lunchtime program at Melton Campus every Friday for Year 7 and 8 students
Coach Angus joined us last Friday for the session, allowing students to sharpen their skills and learn new techniques.
The students had a fantastic time, and the session was a great way to foster teamwork skills, especially for our Year 8 students participating in SACCSS Premier League this term.

Unfortunately, Round 4 of the Year 8 Premier League season was not overly successful for our Division 2 teams, but our students’ resilience and persistence were commendable.
A special shout-out to the Football team who played in front of a crowd at the Melton Campus soccer pitch while students were out for Short Break.
The team played brilliantly despite the pressure of many spectators!
Congratulations to the Girls' Volleyball team who remain undefeated so far and perform at their best week in, week out!
