As we approach the close of this year, our gratitude extends to Andrew Sciberras, whose dedicated guidance in the Sacramental Program has been a source of spiritual growth for our students.
At the recent initiation Mass on 29 November at St Anthony's Church, Melton South, we joyously celebrated the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation by students Juliana Va’a, and Jensen Smith.
Juliana eloquently shared her gratitude and reflections:
"Firstly, I just wanted to say how grateful I am for having the opportunity to be in this Sacramental Program to get my Confirmation and Holy Communion. I am super grateful that the school was running this program. I enjoyed every session I attended and have learned so much from the program, the videos we watched together, and those wonderful booklets we've received. It's a real-life changer because it's changed how I see myself. Overall, it has been an amazing journey; it was all worth it."
As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, let us embrace His message of peace and love. May the spirit of Christmas fill our hearts with compassion, kindness, and a renewed sense of hope for the coming year.
I extend my heartfelt wishes to every one of you for a Merry Christmas filled with love, joy, and the warmth of family and friends. May the new year ahead be a canvas painted with moments of happiness, growth, and endless blessings.
I wish you a peaceful and merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Acting Director of Faith and Mission
Last week, students and staff participated in an end-of-year Mass at their respective campuses. Celebrating Mass at the beginning and end of each school year identifies one of the differences we provide as a Catholic community.
This is the final newsletter for 2023 and as we enter the liturgical cycle of Advent, we ponder the events that took place over 2000 years ago. These events continue to resonate within our Catholic identity and St Francis Catholic College community.
Pope Francis says, "... It does not matter how the nativity scene is arranged: it can always be the same or it can change from year to year. What matters is that it speaks to our lives. Wherever it is, and whatever form it takes, the Christmas creche speaks to us of the love of God, the God who became a child in order to make us know how close he is to every man, woman and child, regardless of their condition." Admirabile signum, 3.
Last Wednesday evening, our annual Sports Awards Presentation was held at the Melton Campus to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our competitors in the interschool competitions. The breadth of talent and commitment was evident in the number of awards on the night.
It was lovely to be part of the presentation and to acknowledge the work of our Sports Coordinator Claudia Alp, her assistant Emily Cook and the many coaches and trainers. Click here for a complete list of award recipients.
Last Thursday we celebrated the inaugural Cobblebank Campus Junior Awards Ceremony followed by our Melton Campus Junior Awards Ceremony on Friday.
Many students were acknowledged for their efforts across various areas, including academics, leadership, community, endeavour, sport, language and arts.
We are blessed to have so many talented young people at the College and look forward to their future achievements here and within the local community.

The Hawke Award recognises people who have shown an exceptional commitment to service, specifically through involvement in leadership, voluntary work and community service. We proudly announce that this year’s recipient is our Project Officer - Indigenous Students and Humanities Domain Leader, Daniela Harrington.
Accepting her award during last week’s Junior Awards Ceremony, Daniela is a worthy recipient who has been an inspiring advocate for our ATSI students, supporting their voices and agency.
We congratulate Year 10 student Jack Morrow, who has been offered a scholarship at St Andrew’s Anglican College at Peregian Springs on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
Jack will complete his Queensland Certificate of Education at St Andrew’s and train and represent St Andrew’s Swim Club in competitions. He will train under Coach Ash Delaney who is an Olympic backstroke medallist and alongside other current Olympians and Commonwealth Games medallists. This is an excellent opportunity for him.
Jack will be joined by his family so we also farewell his mother, Collen Morrow. Colleen has been one of the partners in our Melton Campus canteen for many years. We look forward to following Jack’s journey into the future and perhaps as an Olympic competitor.
As we end 2023, I would like to acknowledge staff who leave us for the next part of their career journey: Katy Huynh, Gustav Wei, Daniela Harrington, Lauren Whitford, Tom Ferguson, Kate Slingo and our trainees, Cooper Brown and Emily Cook. We wish them all the best and thank them for their contribution to our community.
We thank all our students, parents and guardians for their support throughout this year. Thank you also to our committed and dedicated staff for the work they do in providing engaging and challenging learning and wellbeing opportunities. On behalf of the Leadership Team, I wish everyone a very happy and holy Christmas.
Acting Principal
Last week we completed our final week of the school year and there was a general feeling of great satisfaction, accomplishment, and a sense of achievement for a year that has been filled with many firsts and several changes.
It has been the inaugural year of our new College name, and House structure. It has been heartening to observe the development of the eight Houses as the students and staff began building House spirit and gaining knowledge about their patron saint or sister.
There have been many preparations for 2024 as we continue to work on and embed the House structure into the fabric of College life.
As we begin 2024, there will be an opportunity to formally meet with your child’s House Leader and House Mentor at our House Welcome evening. The event was successful this year and helped further develop the partnership between home and school. It enables you to become familiar with the key staff who work with your child throughout their education at the College, particularly their House Leader and House Mentor.
The end of the school year is a time for genuine reflection and I encourage you to speak to your child about their triumphs and areas they found challenging during 2023. Discuss areas where they may need additional support and how they overcame different hurdles.
Each student should be very proud of the hard work they have put into this year and allow themselves the time to celebrate their many successes.
I wish everyone a safe and blessed Christmas and a joyful new year. I look forward to 2024 and the many exciting prospects it will bring.

Congratulations to all our Year 7 to 9 students who received awards for their achievements this year.
Last week, the College community came together to celebrate our students’ sporting achievements at the 2023 Sports Awards.
The awards recognised students who obtained a top three placing at a SACCSS event or an MVP award for performance in Premier League and Senior Sports events. Our championship teams and runners-up were also acknowledged during the ceremony.
These students exhibited excellence through their physical sportsmanship and admirable qualities such as discipline, fairness, and integrity.
Finally, the awards recognised our sports coaches who volunteered their time this year training our teams and guiding them to success. Without their assistance, the College wouldn’t be able to offer our students the many incredible sporting opportunities we have access to.
Thank you to all the students and staff who have participated in SACCSS events this year and to all families who provided support and encouragement. We look forward to coming back even stronger next year.

We are excited to share more photos from our students and staff currently travelling through Italy.
We wish them a safe journey home next week.
This term Year 8 English classes at Melton Campus have been analysing advertising campaigns for their persuasive language and learning about pathos, ethos and logos within these ads.
Having analysed some well-known advertising campaigns, students were then asked to use persuasive language to create an advertising campaign based on a variety of choices on offer.
Many Year 8 students created their own food truck business as a basis for their ad campaign. Many of the designs and food offerings were very creative, and it was great to see the students embrace the concept of free choice.
One student in particular went over and above the requirements, creating a persuasive advertising campaign for her food truck and baking her peach-flavoured cupcakes and sharing them with the rest of the class. Congratulations Paige for showing a flare for design and marketing.
