Archbishop Visit

There would not be too many schools in Australia who had both a Bishop and an Archbishop visit to give Mass in one particular week!

On Friday 31st May, Archbishop Peter Comensoli was joined by Canonical Administrators Rev. Maurie Cooney, Rev. Michael Moody, Rev. Fabian Smith, Rev. Peter Chin Hoang, Rev. Gerard Keith, Rev. Mgr. Charles Portelli, Rev. Richard Rosse, Rev. Arockia Sebastia and Chaplains Rev. Patrick Bradford, Rev. Justel Callos, and Rev. Joseph Panackal. The liturgy was held at St Catherine’s Church on Friday afternoon to celebrate the Annual CRC Federation Staff Mass.

Over 440 staff were present as the CRC Melton Ensemble opened Mass with a beautiful rendition of "We are Called" opening hymn.

Special thanks to Rev. Michael Moody and Margaret Cassar for organising St Catherine's of Siena Church, and all of our staff and students who contributed to this very special event.

Anaphylaxis

As families are aware Anaphylaxis is a major Health issue for many students in schools. We have had 2 incidents over the last week where a student has suffered an Anaphylaxis response due to nuts. In one case, another student simply opened a bag of Trail-mix whilst seated in front and the air borne fragments were enough to trigger an Anaphylaxis attack. In the other, a student suffered an attack after using her locker after someone else had handled it who had nut residue on their hands. In both cases the students were treated quickly with no long term ill effects.

Nevertheless, it reminds us all; parents, teachers and students to be vigilant and aware of possible nut contamination in areas where students who are anaphylactic can be located.

VCE Unit 3 / Year 12 VCAL Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews

An interview evening will be held this Thursday, 6th June between 4:00pm and 7:00pm. Interviews can now be booked through our Parent Access Module (PAM). Normal classes will operate during the day. Interview bookings close this Wednesday, 5th June at 4:00pm.

It is expected that students attend interviews with their parents/guardians.

Mid Year Exams & Timed Assessment Tasks 2019

Years 7 & 8

Apart from Timed Assessment Tasks that will operate in normal class times, all Year 7 & 8 students will do a Timed Assessment Task in Mathematics and English at the same times. These assessment tasks will take place during normal timetabled class. These are listed below:

Years 11 & 12 VCAA General Achievement Task (GAT)

All Year 12 VCE students and any Year 11 students undertaking a Unit 3/4 study must sit the GAT on Wednesday, 12th June between 10:00am and 1:15pm in the Trade Training Centre.

Year 10 Vincit and Year 11 & 12 VCAL students will follow their normal programs during the exam period.

Queen's Birthday

Monday, 10th June is the Queen's Birthday Public Holiday. The College will be closed on this day.

VCE Semester 2

Unit 2 studies begin on Tuesday, 25th June.

Work & City Experience

In the last week of Term 2, Year 10 students will undertake Work Experience (24th – 28th June) and Year 9 students will participate in their City experience program and Reflection day.

Year 9

Year 9 students will undertake assessment tasks beginning Thursday, 13th June. Elective assessments (TATs) will take place in normal scheduled class times. Exams in Mathematics, English, Science and Humanities will take place on the following dates:

Years 10 & 11 June Exams

Year 11 students will undertake VCE Unit 1 exams from Thursday, 13th June to Friday, 21st June. Year 10 students will also have exams during this time.

• All Year 10 & 11 exams will take place in the Osma Exam Centre
• Students are only required at school when they have exams
• Supervised study rooms will operate for students who need or wish to be at school during non-exam periods
• Students will be expected to wear full winter uniform when present for exams
• Students need to be at the College at least 15 minutes before the published starting time to ensure smooth entry into the exam venues
• Friday, 21st June is allocated as a catch up day for any students who need to complete a missed exam or not completed Subject Outcome

All Year 10 & 11 students have been given a copy of the attached exam schedule.

Year 10 Vincit and Year 11 & 12 VCAL students will follow their normal programs during the exam period.

Semester 2 Subject / Electives Changes

All Year 10 and Year 9 students need to email their request for changes to Semester 2 electives to me at jchristie@sfcc.vic.edu.au by Friday 7th June. In the email, students need to nominate the elective they wish to change from and change to, along with a reason. I will then email students times to follow up on requests. Note that all changes are subject to blocking clashes, class sizes, selection requirements and payment of subject levies.

Year 11 students will be able to investigate any Unit 2 subject changes. Requests for Semester 2 Subject changes must first go to Mrs Dickson. Once a pathway plan has been approved students can complete a Change of Subject Form. Students must first talk to their subject teacher before requesting a time to meet with Mrs Dickson. All changes must be applied for and processed by 21st June.

This year, a group of seven students and five staff are participating in the Ration Challenge during Refugee Week. All participants receive a ration pack, similar to the rations provided to Syrian refugees in Jordan's refugee camps. The challenge invites staff and students to experience some of the experiences that displaced people face as they flee their homelands in search for safety and stability.

All money raised will provide Syrian refugees with food, medicine and education and you'll also be supporting other conflict- and disaster-affected communities.

On 27^th May, twenty-one Year 9 and 10 students competed in the SACCSS Intermediate Futsal Tournament. The boys were coached by Mr Gavran and his assistant Liam Volf, whilst the girls were coached by Mr Reithofer and assistant Danica Klasic. The girls team played at the Melbourne Sports Aquatic Centre and the boys team played in Pit Lane, Albert Park. Both teams were very competitive, with some wins and losses for both teams.

Year 11 Student

Year 7 Premier League

On 29th May, our Year 7s played their fifth and final round of premier league against CRC Caroline Springs. Our Girls Volleyball team won again and have gone through the season undefeated and will compete in the semi-final tomorrow against CRC North Keilor. The match will be played here at school in Sheehan Stadium. Our girl’s netball team only lost one game and only missed out on finals due to percentage which was unlucky. A number of our teams place 3rd and 4th in the competition overall which is a great achievement by the Year 7s in their first year of secondary school premier league. We wish our Volleyball team the best of luck for tomorrow and hopefully we can bring home the win. I hope all the students have enjoyed their first premier league season here at CRC Melton and am looking forward to all the upcoming sport in semester 2.

Senior AFL

Our Boys and Girls Senior AFL matches today against Emmanuel College were cancelled unfortunately due to unsafe playing surfaces at the ovals. Our Senior AFL teams will compete in their last game against CRC Sydenham for the annual clash to win the Bruce Runnalls Cup. This tradition will take place on Thursday 27th June this year and will be played at Arnolds Creek Recreation Reserve. Everyone is welcome to attend. Support and attendance at this special event would be much appreciated.
