Mental Health Week

With Mental Health Week being the focus this week, our Student Leaders have organised some activities on Thursday.

RU OK Day - Mr Blackley has provided more information below on this worthy cause.

RU OK Day

Throughout this year, Senior Student Leaders have had a focus on mental wellbeing, promoting and encouraging all students to be aware of their mental wellbeing. This continues this week with the promotion of RU OK Day on Thursday and supports our ongoing work with the Resilience Project, Reach Out, Batyr, Headspace and Be You.

RU OK Day is the national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, “Are you ok?” and support those struggling with life's ups and down. This year they want everyone to Trust the Signs, Trust your Gut & Ask RU OK? They have developed four conversation steps to help you navigate a conversation with someone you’re worried about. Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews

Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews take place after school next week, on Tuesday, 17th September and Thursday 19th September between 4:00pm and 7:00pm. Interviews are linked to the Term 3 Interim Reports that are now available.

Interim Reports are now available through our Parent Portal. If you have any difficulty accessing the Parent Portal, please email itsupport@sfcc.vic.edu.au. As part of the report, a recommendation on attendance is noted. These interviews are booked through our Parent Access Module (PAM).

It is expected that students attend interviews with their parents/guardians.

To access P-S-T Bookings:

• Log in to PAM
• At the top you will see the Parent Interviews link (click to enter)
• Then select your child (if you have more than one, each will be listed separately)
• Select the subject
• Choose an available time with that teacher
• Repeat for each class and child as needed
• Use the print icon to print off your interview times

Year 10 Vincit Work Experience

Year 10 Vincit Work Experience will operate the last week of this term, 16th - 20th September.

End of Term

Friday 20th September is the last day of Term 3. Normal classes will operate with the day finishing at 2:30pm. Bacchus Marsh Coaches buses will be available for early pickup however, local Sita Town buses will operate at normal times.

Town Buses

Families are reminded that whilst in College uniform to and from school our students are subject to our College behavioural expectations. If using a Town bus, they are expected to offer their seats to adults (who pay full fare), in particular elderly people or parents with children.

Students are invited to participate in the Volleyball Victoria Junior Open Competition over 4 days between Sunday 1st – Wednesday 4th December. The competition will be played at Eagle Stadium in Werribee and MSAC in Albert Park with all age groups available.

Students will need to pay $50 to cover registration and other costs.

Teams have to be registered before the end of Term 3, so nominations will need to be submitted by Wednesday, 18th September. We may need to combine some age groups to create teams.

Remember to nominate by the due date as we won’t be able to enter a team after September when registrations have closed.

Volleyball Coach

It is with great pleasure that I announce Ashley Scicluna, the successful recipient of winning third prize of the Dante Alighieri Italian Poetry Competition at the University of Melbourne. Ashley received her trophy and prize on Friday 6th September amongst a crowd of 400 people. Ashley competed against 3,000 students and we are so proud of her relentless efforts. Ashley chose a verse from the Purgatory section of Dante Alighieri’s works. The poem was challenging but Ashley rose to the occasion and strove to do her very best. In the end, Ashley recited the poem and thoroughly impressed the judges. She surpassed her expectations and took a leap of faith. Ashley is certainly a role model for all the students at CRC Melton.

AFL – Runnalls Cup Tradition

Every year, our College plays an AFL match against CRC Sydenham in the Runnalls Cup, a match honouring Mr. Bruce Runnals. Bruce was a Deputy Principal at our College and was Principal at CRC Sydenham. Bruce was a great man who had such a positive impact on many staff and students. He passed away from cancer. Every year we unite as Colleges to play the match. This year we decided to introduce a Senior Girls Match. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all the students and staff. We had Bruce’s wife Anne Runnalls attend and present the trophies. Students really appreciated having her there. It was a day that had a real community feel, with the great weather being a bonus. Both matches were extremely close, and it was a continuous battle to try and hit the front. Our boys got over the line with a win 93-86. Unfortunately our girls match had to be called off during the 2nd quarter due to an injury. You can see the sportsmanship, joy and happiness between both teams and Anne.

Ballarat Chess Tournament

On Monday 9th September, two of our chess coaches, Mr. Orr and Mr. Tammaro, took a group of students to Ballarat Grammar to compete in the Kids Unlimited Interschool Chess Tournament. It was a great opportunity for our students to compete against a range of different schools outside of the SACCSS association. Students had a great day and learnt a lot from other students’ skills and moves. Our stand out players were Jarryd Martin, Josh Djie Spiteri & Solomon Miesen. Well done to all competitors on the day. Chess Club will continue to run every Thursday at lunchtime.

Year 9 Girls Volleyball Grand Final

Today our Year 9 girls made the trip out to Marymede to participate in the Volleyball Grand Final. It was an extremely tough battle for our girls and some sets were only lost by a few points. Unfortunately we lost 1 set to Maryemede's 3. Every season we have Marymede and CRC Melton displaying the very best skills and techniques within the competition but of course there can only be one winner. We are so proud of the girls making the Grand Final and wish them every success in all their future volleyball endeavours within the College.

Our Year 11 VCE PE students were lucky enough to be active participants in WheelTalk at Sheehan Stadium this week.

WheelTalk is an interactive program that encourages students to think about diversity, acceptance and disability – with a primary focus on inclusion.

Presented by Victorians with disability who are actively involved in sport and recreation, WheelTalk combines unique stories of lived disability with the opportunity to play up to an hour of wheelchair basketball. CRC Melton has enjoyed a long standing relationship with Wheeltalk and will continue to support this important charity in the future.

Terry Quinn, Kim Lillington and I accompanied Year 12 students Bitanya Tilahun, Maria Arbizu-Duranand Fiona Lien into the city to take part in the Fitzroy soup vans via the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Below are comments made by each of these students about the experience:

“Never see a need and do nothing about it. A little goes a long way is so true when you see your simple actions lighten up another person's world".

"I wasn’t really sure of what to expect when hopping off the van at the first stop but the charisma and happiness that radiated from everyone there was very fulfilling. I definitely am more than thankful for this night and look forward to volunteering again."

A huge congratulations to our two Year 11 teams who came 6th and 11th out of 23 teams at RMIT last week. This was an outstanding effort given that it is the first year that our school has had a team at this level (Year 11/12). Well done to Blake Camilleri, Peter Halaka, Paul Llanes, Jarryd Martin, Damien Pendleton, Marius Prundus, Kai Tyrrell and Amelia Cameron.

Last week we saw two teams of students from Year 7 go to Overnewton Anglican Community College, and from Year 10, go to Trinity Grammar School in Kew, to represent CRC Melton at the annual MAV Maths Games Day.

• Year 10 students competed against around 100 school teams and placed 48th and 74th
• Year 9 students competed against 42 school teams and placed 27th and 36th
• Year 8 students competed against 96 school teams and placed 75th and 94th
• Year 7 students competed against 44 school teams and placed 19th and 43rd

“I was able to use my maths skills to compete with other students from schools around Victoria. We did a variety of activities, which required a lot of brain power. It was kind of tricky, but one of my favourite parts from this experience was working as a team, because teamwork makes the dream work! Unfortunately, we didn’t make the top three but I still had fun.” - Shayne Manalili

“The things that I liked about Maths Day, was that you got to spend time with some people who most of the time you wouldn’t. I made some good mates out of it. Recreational activities such as 3v3 Basketball Competition, Fishing, RampFest Indoor Skate Park, Arts and more are available!
