It is this mantra that our faith-based student group, the Faith and Mission Team, strive to be witnesses to.
Concern for the poor was a hallmark of St Francis’ life. He is a saint for our time, known and acknowledged for his unwavering commitment to social justice.
At St Francis Catholic College, the Faith and Mission Team endeavours to foster students’ personal growth beyond the classroom and develop their understanding and awareness of social justice both within the community and globally.
The team provides many opportunities for staff and students to put their faith into action. It promotes positive social change within the community and for the environment while advocating for inclusiveness and belonging for all people.
Our Faith and Mission events throughout the year focus on assisting Catholic organisations to enhance the lives of the less fortunate.
Below are the team’s main annual activities.
Project Compassion campaign – fundraising in mentor groups and BBQ
Harmony Week – cultural dress, arts, craft, and sporting activities
Clean Up Australia Day – community clean-up in Melton
World’s Greatest Shave and Cancer Council fundraising events
International Women’s Day awareness campaign
Homelessness Week – Fundraising for St Vinnies and Hope Street Melton
Winter Sleepout – overnight activity, guest speakers from various Melton organisations. BBQ fundraiser
Bandanna Day
Wishing Tree – Christmas Hampers, BBQ fundraiser
The College also runs a Breakfast Club three days a week to ensure that no student goes without the most important meal of the day and gets their learning off to the best possible start.
We are proud of our contributions to the local community, including our students’ volunteer work at the Melton Central Kids’ Reading Club, where they listen to primary school students read and build connections with the children through stories, activities and play.
