Faith in Action – Giselle Volunteers at Earth Village

Year 12 student Giselle’s VCE VM studies extend well beyond the classroom.

For the past two years, Giselle has volunteered every Sunday at The Earth Village Community in Melton.

Earth Village includes a second-hand clothing store, provides food relief (including free bread, baked goods, hygiene products, nappies, and baby food), and serves free takeaway meals daily to those in need. On average, they distribute around 100 walk-in takeaway meals each day.

Additionally, they offer valuable work experience opportunities for volunteers.

This week, Giselle shares her story about her efforts to make a positive impact within the local community.

In Unit 4 of our Personal Development Skills studies, we have been working on projects to raise awareness and support for the homeless.

Every Sunday, I go to The Earth Village in Melton to volunteer my time and give back to the community. I have been volunteering there for the last 2 years.

The op shop sells good-quality, recycled clothing, and the money raised provides food relief to those in need in our local Melton community.

Volunteering my time every Sunday is something I find rewarding, and it gives me a chance to see our regular customers and catch up with my coworkers.

I encourage you to visit Earth Village’s website, where you can learn more about their services and how you might be able to help.

The Earth Village Op Shop, 12 Wallace Square, Melton, is open from 9.30am – 5pm on weekdays and 10am - 4pm weekends.
