Students Volunteer for Community Reading Program

Last Wednesday, 13 students began their weekly session as volunteers at the Melton Reading Club Program.

The students put their faith into action as they helped primary school students from various cultural backgrounds learn to read and enjoy literacy. It was truly an amazing afternoon with the younger children enjoying their mentor learning buddy’s company.

The Melton Reading Club is delivered by the trained staff and helpful volunteers working with Vinnie’s Education Programs. The aim is to help a range of students from various backgrounds, cultures and with differing learning needs.

The program assists students with literacy and numeracy and provides general social, emotional and academic support. It helps improve educational outcomes in a friendly and non-formal learning environment.

A few spots are left for students who would like to be part of this great community program that runs every Wednesday afternoon from 3.30pm to 5pm. Students are transported to the Melton Central Community Centre at 239 Station Road by College mini bus and dismissed from the venue.
