Moorabool Shire Youth Award Winner

Year 11 student Ophelia Fernando was recently honoured with Moorabool Shire Council’s Positive Influencer Youth Award.

The award recognises Ophelia’s community service and involvement with Moorabool Shire Youth Council. Since 2020, she has worked with other local youth on programs that provide new opportunities for young people in the community.

Highlights have been hosting an online COVID-19 Writing Competition and Mental Health Youth Forum in 2020, representing the council in the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation Moorabool Leadership Project and obtaining a grant to fund the Moorabool’s Got Talent Competition.

Year 11 Coordinator Meryem McLeod, who nominated Ophelia for the award, said the College was proud of her achievements within the school and her local community.

Ophelia said she was grateful for the award and the opportunity to work on the Youth Council.

“All the work achieved in the last three years would not have been possible without the teamwork, integrity and positivity within Moorabool Shire Youth Council,” she said.
