As your new Director of Faith and Mission at St Francis Catholic College in 2025, I look forward to being involved in all things faith-related at the College, particularly during this year of the Jubilee.
Our goal to interweave the Franciscan charism even more vividly through the College will continue to be a priority for our Mission Integration team this year.
Our team this year consists of Liturgy Coordinators John Kavanagh (Cobblebank) and Brendan Walker (Melton), Social Justice Coordinators Trish Griffin (Melton) and Mitchell Taylor (Cobblebank).
On the evening of 24 December 2024, Pope Francis officially inaugurated the 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope proclaiming, “Tonight the door of hope has opened wide to the world” reminding us that “God speaks personally to each of us…and…there is hope also for you!”
In his homily, Pope Francis invited everyone to rediscover the joy of the Lord and embrace the mission to transform our world so that this year may be a time of jubilation.
The theme of the Jubilee Year is Pilgrims of Hope. As we commence the school year, we are encouraged to experience a transformative journey where individuals and school communities grow in their trust in God and strive for a life filled with meaning where we become beacons of hope for others.
As the Jubilee Year begins, Pope Francis has encouraged everyone to reflect on how they can bring light, hope and kindness into the lives of others.
The Jubilee Year of 2025 offers a profound opportunity for renewal, unity and hope.
Let us embrace God’s call to transform our world with love and compassion.
Director of Faith and Mission
Welcome back to all our families, especially those joining the College in 2025.
We had several additional students join at the end of last year, and this year, we welcome approximately 250 Year 7 students at both our Melton and Cobblebank campuses.
At present, we have a waiting list at every year level which speaks volumes about the high regard in which the College is held in the local community.
We announced our 2024 Dux, Kaitlyn Borg, at the end of last year. Kaitlyn received an ATAR of 98.55, which is a tremendous effort considering we compete across the entire state of Victoria.
Kaitlyn's solid work ethic and commitment to her studies, which were established very early in high school, have certainly paid off, allowing her a wide range of choices when it comes to further study.
I take this opportunity to congratulate all our 2024 Year 12 students.
Of the 153 students in last year’s senior cohort, 82% chose to study a VCE pathway and 11% of these students achieved an ATAR of 85 or above. Five students achieved an ATAR above 90 and 20 students achieved a study score of 40 or above.
The College median ATAR in 2024 was 63.22, and the average study score was 29. This is very close to the state average of 30, indicating that all results are heading in an upward and positive direction with improvements each year.
Regardless of their chosen pathway, we wish all our graduates the best and look forward to hearing their stories in the years ahead and hope they will return to celebrate their achievements with us at their 10-year reunion.
We are beginning our year with family welcome evenings at both campuses.
Cobblebank Campus – today, Tuesday 4 February, at 6pm
Melton Campus – Thursday 13 February at 6.15pm. RSVP here.
The evenings are an ideal time to meet or reintroduce yourself to your child’s Mentor teacher and get to know other families. You will also receive information relevant to your child’s year level.
I encourage all families to attend this annual event as we build connections and relationships so important to success in high school. Only in partnership with our families, who are the first educators of our students, can we achieve the best possible outcomes for our students.
The Caroline Springs Proactive Policing Unit has contacted the College and would like to advise all parents and guardians of a current police operation that began last Friday and will run until Friday 7 February.
Members from the Proactive Policing Unit and Melton Highway Patrol will conduct vehicle and foot patrols in school zones before and after school across Melton.
The aim is driver education, with a view that if parents are reminded of traffic and parking expectations during the first week of term, we experience fewer issues as the school year progresses.
Units will randomly attend school zones to ensure that all in Melton are attended during the operation.

I would like to warmly welcome all students and families as we embark on the 2025 academic year.
We are enthusiastic about the opportunities for learning, growth, and achievement that lie ahead. A new academic year brings fresh goals, challenges, and the opportunity to foster meaningful connections.
All students have rejoined their mentor groups, where they received their diaries and lockers, and re-established connections within their groups. House assemblies have addressed expectations for Term 1 and highlighted some of the activities in the weeks ahead.
We are particularly excited about the launch of the Positive Behaviour 4 Learning initiative, which aligns with our College behaviour expectations based on the Student Expectation Framework and Core Wellbeing Values of Empathy, Community and Endeavour.

Staff and students returned to Cobblebank Campus last week to find new shade sails in the cloister, new portable classrooms installed, significant progress on our new oval and news that the brand new Creativity Hub, currently under construction, should be completed by mid-2025.
The shade sails have been a welcome addition given the recent heatwave and combined with the shade provided by our yellow building, give students plenty of space out of the sun.
Work on our new oval is progressing well and we thank our contractors, the Victorian Sports Group, for the photos below taken of our campus last week. It’s incredible to see our school from the sky and exciting to witness our grounds and facilities taking shape.
You will also see below that construction of our Creativity Hub is moving in leaps and bounds, and we eagerly await its completion.
Work on Stage 3, the general purpose classrooms for Years 10-12, is expected to begin later this term.
We warmly welcome staff who have joined us at Cobblebank Campus this year:
Liza Arciaga, Sheree Bolton, Brandon Camilleri, Paula Carter, Stuart Carter, Ashini Devi, Joel Fletcher, Catelin Gatt, Caitlin Green, Darren James, Ben Kunze, Judy Lam, Lauren Smith, Monique Marshall, Karen Mauri, Michelle Moeser, Andrea Nassiep, Courtney Owen, Minna Pius, Ainsley Reardon, Mitchell Taylor, Ashwini Venkataiya, Dinesh Venkataiya, Emily Vuksic, Jen White and Dominique Wilcox.

Please be aware of new bus timetables if your child uses one of the services listed below:

Just when we thought sport couldn’t get any busier at St Francis Catholic College, along came 2025 to prove us wrong!
Events will start with a splash as we kick off the year with our first inter-house competition: our campus Swimming Carnivals.
On Thursday 27 February, Year 7, 8 and 12 Melton Campus students will participate in the event at Melton Waves along with students in years 9 to 11 who will be part of the SACCSS swim team.
On Friday 28 February all students at Cobblebank Campus will participate in their campus carnival at Melton Waves.
Could Anthony House repeat its sensational win at Melton Campus, or will the lion be tamed by a new victor? Lawrence House took out the inaugural Cobblebank Campus Cup and will be vying to keep the prize in its nest.
Excitement is brewing at Cobblebank Campus as we anticipate the opening of the multipurpose sports oval this year. The oval will provide a long-awaited training space for our AFL, soccer and cricket teams.
Up to 48 teams will participate in the Year 7-9 SACCSS Premier League across both campuses as we welcome a Year 9 Cobblebank cohort to the competition.
Notably, this is also the first time a SACCSS College has had two campuses play each other in the Premier League season.
Our Principal, Marlene Jorgensen, will take the helm as the 2025 SACCSS President, giving the College an opportunity to showcase our facilities by hosting the annual Chess tournament in August and the Awards Luncheon in November.
I would also like to take this opportunity to announce some changes within the Sports Department this year.
We congratulate Sophie Cryan on her appointment as Sports Coordinator and Head of Sport at Cobblebank Campus and welcome back College alum Jake Richards as our cross-campus Sports Assistant.
Congratulations also to our 2025 Sport Captains, Emma (Year 12) and Shameka (Year 11) at the Melton Campus and Ruth (Year 9) and Amelie (Year 8) at the Cobblebank Campus.
They are already overflowing with ideas on improving sports at the College, so watch this space!
Director of Sport Cross-Campus
There are only a few places left for students in Years 10 and 11 who would like to join the College’s 2025 Europe Trip.
The trip will embark on an exhilarating journey that spans the realms of history, culture, and discovery! Students will traverse the enchanting streets of Assisi, the artistic wonderland of Florence, and experience the vibrant pulse of Berlin and poignant echoes of Krakow.
The approximate cost of the trip is $8000.
Families applying for the trip are expected to be up to date with their school fees.
Information about the trip and instructions on how to apply are available below.

Shrove Tuesday falls on Tuesday 4 March this year. It is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday, and the launch of the Project Compassion campaign at the College.
